What is Article 164?


•The Article is positioned within Chapter 7 of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, which contains provisions that addresses Disadvantage Countries, Regions and Sectors.

•The scope of Chapter 7, “establishes a regime for disadvantage countries, regions or sectors within the framework of the Treaty as well as a special regime for the Less Developed Countries in order to enhance their prospects for successful competition within the Community and redress, to the extent possible any negative impact of the establishment of the CSME.”

•Article 164 (Promotion of Industrial Development) is enshrined in the Treaty which is a special provision for disadvantage countries in the context of industrial development in the less developed countries (LDC) of CARICOM.
